Antique Mappin Brothers Tray, Round Footed 10 Inch Silver Plate English Tray, Intricate Engraved Design, Claw Feet, Vanity Perfume Tray,

Antique Mappin Brothers English silver plate tray. The tray is a 10 inch round footed tray with an engraved scroll and punch design in the center and a small beaded design around the rim. The tray's feet are very detailed claw feet. The tray is handmade and has the Mappin Brothers hallmark in two places on the back. One has with the sun with Mappin Brothers and the word London encircled and London Bridge under Mappin Brothers. The second is the sun and London encircled with Mappin Brothers inscribed and etched numbers 06484 and what appears to be a C O or L O.
The sun trademark was granted in 1835 by the Cutler's company. They were not known as Mappin Brothers until after 1852, and in 1856 ad 1861 they acquired London showrooms on King William Street at London Bridge and Regent Street.
The tray is in very nice condition with wear commensurate with age and use. You can see some of the under metal in the scroll design and there are a vey minor scratches. I think the tray was probably made for a cordial decanter and small cordial glasses.
It would be a lovely vanity or perfume tray.
