James W. Tufts silver plate teapot. The antique Tufts tilting or swinging teapot is a late 1800's piece by James W. Tufts. The teapot features decorative floral repousse pattern around the brim below the lid and on the base of the stand. It has a ribbed pattern along the spout and on the curve of the handle. I have polished the piece and it does polish up brightly. The inside is also clean for the age.
The teapot does have the original heating element but I have not tried to use it. I do not have any type of wick for the element.
The teapot and stand both have the James W Tufts hallmark with his name, Boston and a four point star with a T in the middle.
The piece actually has the notation plate guaranteed.
There is some vintage wear to this piece. The handle has some loss of silver showing the darker metal underneath. ( Please see photo 6). There may be a few other spots where there maybe very minimal loss.
*Please note the other wear is the spout. The spout has been slightly bent over the years. It does not prohibit the item from the functionality of a teapot, but it is slightly bent. Please see photos 7, 8. Priced accordingly.
James W. Tufts was a successful and talented silver plater in Boston. He first issued a patent on his designs in 1885. He passed away in 1902.
