Antique Silver Box. 1800's James W. Tufts silver plate casket. The beautiful floral repousse' box or casket is footed with a serpentine shaped front. The top of the box has the monogram MW in the center medallion. The floral pattern flows from the front to the sides to the back. The inside of the box is a dark blue velveteen. I do believe the inside has probably been replaced. Often these boxes had a silk lining but has probably worn over the years.
James W. Tufts produced beautiful silver plated ware from 1875 - 1895 in Boston, Mass.
In 1895 due to health related concerns he turned his business over to other and moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina.
I think the box is probably around 1880 - 1890.
