Italian Sorrento Tobacco Box. The box is made of olive wood with inlaid wood with classical Renaissance images of women and chariots.. The box has the original tag on the bottom noting the maker Gargiulo's Lace House, Sorrento Italy. It also has a red tape with a date and initials of 1930. This is an estate find and the person labeled many of the items they had from family members and travels. The box was purchased in the 30's.
Gargiulo's Lace House was founded in 1863 and is still in operation.
The box did have a key at one time but I do not have it. It was lined with some type of foil but some of it has bee removed.
There is on small piece of wood missing on the lip of the lid. Please see photo 4. I am pricing the piece accordingly.
